Nosov MSTU held the annual seminar “Magnitogorsk Materials Week”.
Leading scientists from Moscow, St. Petersburg and Magnitogorsk discussed current aspects of digital twins for thermomechanical processing of steels and developments in the field of machine tool building.
“Our seminar is already traditional, it takes place twice a year for 7 years. The seminar serves two purposes: firstly, it introduces students, staff, scientists to interesting people, famous scientists, experts in their field, and secondly, it expands partnerships for us and further cooperation with leading universities in the country,” explained Alexander Pesin, professor of the Department of Materials Processing Technology, Nosov Magnitogorsk State Technical University.
Guest of Nosov MSTU and the lecturer at the seminar - Nikolai Kolbasnikov, professor of St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, is confident that the “Magnitogorsk Materials Week” is very interesting not only for teachers and researchers, but also for students who will practice in metallurgical and rolling production, in managing the properties of materials, in the development of optimal technological processes.
“We visited the Zhilyaev laboratory “Mechanics of Gradient Nanomaterials”, where new processes of asymmetric rolling are being developed - this is a very interesting method of rolling, I think that in the near future it will guarantee a very wide introduction into production, in my opinion, this is a kind of production of nanocrystalline materials, this is a more practically significant process that allows get the smallest structure. The process of structure control during asymmetric rolling is still a long way off. This requires the joint efforts of people who are involved in the technology of this rolling and predicting properties. I think our joint developments can lead to a positive result,” said Nikolai Kolbasnikov, professor at St. Petersburg Polytechnic University.
In addition, the professor noted the convenient location of Nosov MSTU, which allows university scientists to research and develop directly at metallurgical production, with the support, supervision and financial support of PJSC MMK.
“We are located in St. Petersburg, we do not have nearby metallurgical enterprises, so we are no longer engaged in metallurgical technologies, but in materials science. Metallurgy today has enormous potential for research, so Magnitogorsk State Technical University. G.I. Nosova is in a more advantageous position, since the metallurgical giant is literally next door. The company supervises and finances scientific developments that are carried out at the university; in this regard, we are in a less advantageous position, since PJSC Severstal is the closest company to us, but is still located far from the university, which undoubtedly complicates joint work,” - Nikolai Kolbasnikov, professor of St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, shared.
Also, the director of the department of strategic development of MSTU “STANKIN”, Ph.D. in Economics, Konstantin Elenev, gave a lecture on the main challenges in the development of machine tool industry from the point of view of an industrial university . In his lecture, he shared global challenges in the fields of mechanical engineering and machine tool manufacturing, priorities of business tasks and emphasized the driving forces of transformation in these areas. He noted that STANKIN today is a think tank for the technological development of mechanical engineering and its basis - machine tool building, a prestigious place for training, professional growth and self-realization, and also spoke about the Federal project "Development of production of capital goods."
The results of the seminar were summed up by Georgy Raab, head of the Zhilyaev laboratory “Mechanics of Gradient Nanomaterials" of Nosov MSTU. Georgy Iosifovich noted that the main goal of the seminar - improving skills and interest in science - was achieved, because students during this week of materials were captivated by interesting lectures and discussions, and scientists, in turn, thanks to the seminar, will carry out further work on cooperation.
As a result of the meeting at Nosov MSTU took a new step towards expanding partnerships with the country's leading universities by signing a cooperation agreement with MSTU "STANKIN". The agreement between the universities provides for the preparation and implementation of joint scientific projects.
