November 28 in the conference hall of the Nosov Magnitogorsk State Technical University, the VII International Scientific Seminar " Magnitogorsk Materials Week 2022", dedicated to the memory of Alexander Zhilyaev, an outstanding scientist in the field of engineering of nanostructured materials, has started.
Leading experts in this field met to honor the memory of the scientist, exchange scientific experience, and discuss promising issues in the field of metal and alloy processing.
The organizer of the Magnitogorsk Materials Week is the Laboratory of Mechanics of Gradient Nanomaterials named after A.P. Zhilyaev. The idea of holding seminars was proposed in 2018 by Alexander Zhilyaev himself, a leading scientist, professor, head of the laboratory “Mechanics of Gradient Nanomaterials”. Since then, scientific seminars have been held annually (twice a year). More than 15 experts from different countries acted as speakers at the conference, including the USA, Spain, Great Britain, India, Italy, China and Russia.
This year, over the course of five days of the conference program, well-known materials scientists from Moscow, Chelyabinsk and Yekaterinburg will unite in plenary lectures and present scientific reports on such topics as the physics and mechanics of gradient, bimodal and heterogeneous metallic nanomaterials of increased strength and plasticity for promising structural applications.
The school-seminar with a welcoming speech was opened by acting. Rector of Nosov Magnitogorsk State Technical University Dmitry Terentiev:
“This conference is a wonderful school for students, graduate students and specialists in the field of metallurgy, materials science, metal forming. And, hopefully, it will allow participants to learn something new and then apply this knowledge in their writings. I wish everyone productive work and success!”
Famous scientists are invited as lecturers, such as Vladimir Stolyarov , professor at the Institute of Mechanical Engineering (Moscow); Alexander Vydrin , Head of the Department of metal forming of South Ural State University (Chelyabinsk); Alexander Pesin , Professor of the Department of technologies of materials treatment, will make a presentation from our university . Daria Komkova , a young specialist from the Institute of Metal Physics, will also make a presentation .
Vladimir Stolyarov, Chief Researcher of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the Russian Academy of Sciences, spoke about his scientific work :
“The main direction of my scientific activity is the research and development of materials that have a nanostructure. This direction is extremely interesting and has practical value: by reducing the size of the crystal structure, we can create or design, so to speak, design materials with unusual properties. The whole task is to ensure that these methods are effective and cost-effective. At the moment, quite a lot of materials with such a structure have already been created. And we assume that in the near future there will be some leap not only in the understanding of these materials, but also in the implementation of nanostructural properties. It is worth noting that students develop this scientific idea. Speaking of me, now my two students are preparing to defend their Ph.D. dissertations.”
Also, at the school-seminar there are colleagues from Belarus, a group of students, who, as part of the event, have an internship here, studying the areas of scientific research, specialists from Ural Steel JSC, etc.
“The conference allows you to establish connections between scientists and students, support scientific research, and also understand where the level of science is. From the first lecture, the students understood that it tells about complex things in an understandable language,” said the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Professor of the Department of technologies of materials treatment, Doctor of Technical Sciences of the Nosov Magnitogorsk State Technical University Alexander Pesin.
The overall goal of this scientific workshop is to bring together scientific thoughts leading to new innovations from a fundamental point of view and possible practical applications as structural materials, and in many cases to the use of their new functionalities.
“I am engaged in the study of the microstructure of materials after severe deformation, namely, after symmetrical rolling. For me, Magnitogorsk Materials Week is a great opportunity to learn a lot of new things, gain unique experience, and meet people from my professional field. I am grateful to our university for such an opportunity ,” shared her impressions Anna Baryshnikova, a 2nd year master’s student at Nosov Magnitogorsk State Technical University.
The conference will run until December 2nd. Already today, the participants of the school-seminar will have an excursion to the laboratory “Mechanics of Gradient Nanomaterials named after A.P. Zhilyaev”, which allows leading scientists from Russia and abroad to develop high-tech production technologies and experimental equipment to create new materials with a unique combination of such properties as ductility and strength for promising structural applications in aviation, automotive, military and other industries.
We invite everyone to join a large-scale scientific event for the exchange of experience and scientific ideas in the field of materials science at the Magnitogorsk Materials Week 2022 site.
