Nosov Magnitogorsk State Technical University opened the Magnitogorsk Materials Week, Spring 2019. As part of this event, we held an extensive international workshop on “Severe plastic deformation of metallic materials”. The university welcomes leading scientists of Russia, the USA and India.

“On behalf of Nosov Magnitogorsk State Technical University I welcome you at the second international workshop “Severe plastic deformation of metallic materials”. The idea of holding such workshop was proposed by the team of the Mechanics of Gradient Nanomaterials Laboratory at NMSTU two years ago. The agenda of this event is rather busy. It includes lectures by leading Russian and foreign scientists. As part of the program, we also arranged the tours to the Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works and Technopark of NMSTU. No doubt, this workshop will be extremely useful for you, and our five-day work will result in new examples of research collaboration. I thank all participants for their contribution to the workshop and hope that we will spend time fruitfully”, said in his welcome speech Alexey Korchunov, Vice-Rector for International Affairs, NMSTU.

The ideas on the subject will be presented by Megumi Kawasaki, Professor, Oregon State University (the USA), Puneet Tandon, Professor, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing (India), Ayrat Nazarov, Professor, Institute for Metals Superplasticity Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Ufa), Alexey Volkov, Professor, Mikheev Institute of Metal Physics, the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Yekaterinburg), Radik Mulyukov, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Director of the Institute for Metals Superplasticity Problems, the Russian Academy of Sciences (Ufa), Alexander Zhilyaev, Head of the Mechanics of Gradient Nanomaterials Laboratory at NMSTU, principal researcher of the Institute for Metals Superplasticity Problems (Ufa) and others.

The guests have already enjoyed the tour on Magnitogorsk. The Magnitogorsk Materials Week is expected to be not only a platform for discussions, but also a place for integration of research solutions by the scientists from Russia, India and the USA.

“The workshop is very well organized, especially for a rather special subject to be discussed. In my opinion, it is rather complicated to gather people in one place and organize such scientific platform, especially from the point of talking about such subjects as mechanics of materials and materials science. However, NMSTU easily made a good job”, commented Megumi Kawasaki, Professor of Oregon State University (the USA).
